High Noon is pleased to present Keep Feeling Fascination, the inaugural group exhibition at the gallery’s new Tribeca location at 68 Reade St. The exhibition is comprised of fifteen artists, half of whom I’ve had the privilege of showing at High Noon and half of whom are artists that I’ve spent years admiring. I want to create an intergenerational dialogue that is also an expression of gratitude to the NYC art world, and to the artists who responded to my invitation with warm enthusiasm. We share a belief that long term viability in NYC is found in community and relationships.
These fifteen artists variously engage with art history, forefront material exploration, and use exuberant color with all its inherent psychological implications. Twisted ideas of the body/psyche manifest in painting, sculpture, and collage. They riff on established genres and methodologies while creating variously luminous, dense, fantastical, or grotesque artworks that reflect the overall sensibility of the gallery.
In a volatile climate where galleries are expanding or shuttering, owning a gallery is an increasingly existential question. How has access to social mobility in our field changed? How do we navigate the complexities that tie our industry to entities that oppose our values? With the realities of creeping fascism and human rights abuses demanding urgent responses, how can we ever hope to rise to meet the moment? And why do we continue to try?
A mentor once said that we make art because we must. A gallery is an extension of this imperative. This exhibition is dedicated to my father, Daniel David Linge (August 13, 1956 - September 13, 2024). His relentless belief in me, and the example he set by living his own life with unwavering joy, enthusiasm, and integrity will always inspire my pursuit of fascination.
